July 20, 2021NewsAmazon Rekognition is a machine learning (ML) based service that can analyze images and videos to detect objects, people, faces, text, scenes, activities, and inappropriate content. Label Detection makes it easy for customers to detect thousands of objects, scenes, actions, or concepts found in an image or video based on its contents. For example, a photo taken during a tropical beach holiday may contain labels such as ‘Palm Tree’ (object), ‘Beach’ (scene), ‘Running’ (action), and ‘Outdoors’ (concept). In addition, Amazon Rekognition provides bounding boxes for common objects such as cars, furniture, apparel, or pets. Starting today, customers can view the complete list of labels and object bounding boxes supported by Amazon Rekognition, to quickly identify those that are relevant to their applications and use cases. Label detection provides rich image and video metadata that makes it easy to automate or enhance a variety of use cases such as image and video search for user generated content, contextual advertising against produced content, and performance analysis of marketing material. For example, a social media platform can offer a feature that allows users to search for any photo and video that contains a ‘Beach’ or a ’Golden Retriever’ dog. On the other hand, a media publisher looking to monetize their video content may use this type of metadata to place a contextually relevant advertisement for a family beach holiday. A marketing technology company may use labels metadata to analyze which visual elements in the creative led to higher campaign conversion and user engagement. Customers can download the list of supported labels and object bounding boxes from our documentation page or from the ‘Label detection’ tab of the Amazon Rekognition Console. In addition, on the Rekognition console, customers can use a search bar to easily check whether their label is already supported or not. Using the same interface, customers can request new labels that they would like Amazon Rekognition to support, or provide any other product feedback. News Source : www.aws.amazon.com [...]
June 30, 2021NewsMicrosoft on Thursday unveiled a new version of the Windows software powering most of the world’s computers, opening the door to apps tailored for Google-backed Android operating system. The US technology titan said Windows 11 will be available this holiday season as a free update to its predecessor. “Today marks a major milestone in the history of Windows,” Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella said in a streamed presentation. “It’s the beginning of a new generation of computing; we are reimagining everything.” Windows 11 features touted by Microsoft included bringing Android apps to Windows for the first time by letting personal computer users get them through the Amazon App Store. The selection would be limited by Android apps offered by Amazon, meaning some popular apps wouldn’t be available. Microsoft chief product officer Panos Panay demonstrated the change with a TikTok app, saying it is a favorite of his. “Imagine recording and posting a video from TikTok or using Khan Academy Kids for virtual learning right from your personal computer,” Panay said. Microsoft overhauled its shop on Windows for apps and other digital content to make it more inviting, and said developers will be able to use their own commerce platforms to avoid paying any commissions to the tech giant. The move comes with Apple under fire for the bite it takes of transactions at the App Store that serves as the only gateway for content on its iPhones and other devices. Along with simplifying the Windows design in a bid to make the user interface cleaner and quicker, Microsoft integrated it further into its Xbox cloud gaming service. Windows 11 boasts features designed to ramp up video game play with rich graphics and more, according to a presentation. The operating system also continued a trend of Microsoft opening its computers to devices powered by rivals while bringing in revenue from services or software hosted in the cloud. An early version of Windows 11 was to be shared with people taking part in an “insiders program” to glean feedback in the months leading up to its public release. News source : techxplore.com [...]

June 9, 2021NewsSaaS (software as a service) is not a new term and has shown continued adoption and growth year on year since the term first appeared fifteen years ago, with its commonality and mass adoption only growing over time. With its innate scalability and flexibility, SaaS took advantage of the new public cloud market. Today we find ourselves at a time where SaaS is taking over the cloud computing market and according to Bloomberg, public cloud platforms, business services, and applications (SaaS) will all grow at a 9% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) between 2020 and 2023. COVID has accelerated this mindset: we witnessed an enforced change when remote flexibility and agility moved to the top of the urgency list. Look at the lightning speed of adoption of Zoom, MS Teams and Google Hangouts; the traditional barriers of time, procurement and lengthy evaluations went out of the window. Source: CloudTech [...]
June 7, 2021NewsAmazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Amazon FinSpace, an industry cloud offering aimed squarely at helping finance organisations efficiently prepare and analyse data. The purpose-built analytics service ‘aggregates, catalogues, and tags data across an organisation’s data silos’, enabling the data to be easily searchable across the entire company. This is achieved, in part, through a purpose-built managed Apache Spark analytics engine, with more than 100 ‘data transformations’ common in the capital markets industry. Beginning possibly the longest paragraph CloudTech has ever seen committed to a press release, AWS explained the rationale for Amazon FinSpace. It also exemplifies the complexity of financial services moving to the cloud.   News Source : CloudTech [...]
